A Bengaluru-based CEO has shared a post highlighting how job losses can affect employees and their families beyond the immediate loss of income.
“Layoffs are so brutal,” Debjit Sen, founder and CEO of Engrow, said in his post on X as he shared the experience of an old friend who was recently laid off after buying a new house and while he and his wife were expecting their second child.

“My old friend was laid off recently. He has just bought a new house, and he and his wife are expecting their second child. Now he doesn’t know how he is going to manage the EMIs and everything else,” Debjit said in his post, adding that layoffs were not just about losing a job but could disrupt a person’s entire life.
“You can spend years building a career, and suddenly, one email can put your entire life into uncertainty. That’s the part that scares me the most,” he said.
Take a look at the post here:
The post drew responses from users who shared their own experiences and offered advice on dealing with financial uncertainty.
One user highlighted the importance of financial planning before taking on major commitments.
“This may sound difficult to hear. But this is exactly why everyone should do their financial risk profiling before taking up big liabilities,” the user wrote.
Another user shared a personal account of dealing with multiple crises after losing their job.
“I lost my job earlier this year, and while dealing with that, my dad was suddenly hospitalised. Then I had a cardiac attack and I honestly thought my life was over,” the user wrote.
“I’m still trying to get back on my feet. It’s been one thing after another, and the struggle just continues,” he added.
While layoffs are often discussed in terms of numbers and organisational changes, their impact is felt in the everyday lives of employees and their families, who are left to navigate uncertain futures.
