On Friday, May 29, a heavy rainstorm accompanied by thunder and lightning slammed into various areas of Bengaluru, creating significant waterlogging, traffic congestion, and major traffic jams for city commuters.
Thousands of motorists were stranded on busy roads as a rapid spell of rain suddenly appeared during hectic business hours, making many office workers struggling to get to their destinations. In a number of low-lying places and underpasses, liquid quickly accumulated.
Extremely heavy rain, gusty breezes, and thunder were also reported in places like Sadashivanagar, Mekhri Circle, Majestic, Sheshadripuram, Race Course Road, Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Shivajinagar, and Vasanthanagar.
Additionally, weather was reported from UB City, Corporation Circle, KR Market, Richmond Circle, Shivananda Circle, Jayanagar, Palace Guttahalli, Lalbagh, JP Nagar, Bannerghatta Road, Vijayanagar, and Yeshwanthpur, among other places.
Sheshadripuram Main Road, one of the worst-hit areas, was where heavy rain flooded the road and significantly slowed visitors flow. Waterlogging was likewise reported on Rajajinagar’s West of Chord Road and the Shivananda Circle overpass, where overflowing rainwater caused significant traffic congestion.
As travellers were stranded in lengthy prospects queues in central and western Bengaluru during the night rush hour, vehicles moved at a snail’s pace. Some two-wheeler users were seen scurrying under flyovers and roads shelters to protect themselves from the weather.
Additionally, overflowing drainage and flooded trails caused issues for walkers. In some places, cars had trouble with bad awareness as a result of heavy rain and thunder.
To control auto movement and avoid gridlocks, traffic police personnel were stationed at major thoroughfares and crowded intersections. Authorities urged travellers to drive cautiously and prevent clogged streets wherever possible.
The city’s tropical climate conditions prevailing over the past few weeks were temporarily reacted to by the precipitation. However, as a result of the recent brief spell of rain, numerous roads were submerged in water, raising concerns about political issues like blocked drains and poor rainwater management.
Due to the presence of effective weather conditions in the south-eastern region of Karnataka, Bengaluru and its surrounding areas are likely to continue to experience intermittent rain over the upcoming days.
Citizens are advised to stay alert while traveling in midnight time, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas of the city.
