Bigfoot hunters have turned their sights on New Jersey following a raft of sightings in the US state.

Former firefighter Mike Familant – who hosts YouTube show In the Shadow of Big Red Eye – has been looking into Sasquatch reports for years and he’s convinced the state is worth focusing on because there have been dozens of documented sightings in Sussex County and he names High Point State Park, Stokes State Forest and the Delaware Water Gap as some of the best places to potentially get a glimpse of the fabled beast.

He revealed he had his own encounter at High Point State Park in 2022 when he recorded a strange vocalization which he claims was reviewed by a military linguist who was left baffled.

Familant told NJ.com: “He came back with a report that said it was outside of human vocal range and wasn’t any known animal from northwestern New Jersey.”

His weekly series In the Shadow of Big Red Eye takes its name from an incident in High Point State Park when a ranger reportedly saw a pair of glowing red eyes during a patrol there back in 1972 – and Familant is adamant he doesn’t want to make a Hollywood version of Bigfoot hunting unlike other TV shows.

He told the publication: “The shows on TV are designed for ratings. I wanted to make something that reflected what Bigfooting is actually like.”

It comes after Washington was named the best place for potential Bigfoot sightings by a study which looked into reports of the fabled beast across North America.

The research by Canada Sports Betting looked at all 50 US states as well as 13 areas of Canada and focused on reported Bigfoot sightings as well as forest cover, state population and climate-related factors to determine where the creature is most likely to be living.

Washington came out on top after scoring a 4.61 per cent probability of sighting Bigfoot with 9.17 reported sightings per 100,000 people and West Virginia ranked second giving Squatchers a 3.79 per cent chance of having an encounter.

Oregon was third with 3.38 per cent following by Idaho in fourth with 2.78 per cent and Arkansas was fifth with 2.48 per cent. The top 10 is rounded out by Montana , Maine, Yukon, British Columbia and Alabama.
