Blur drummer Dave Rowntree spent years “nagging” Oasis to reform.
The 62-year-old musician – whose band was at the centre of a bitter rivalry with Oasis back in the 1990s – has revealed he supported a reunion long before warring brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher finally ended their feud and got the band back together for their Oasis Live ’25 tour.
Dave told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I’ve been nagging them [Oasis] to do exactly that for years.”
He went on to joked: “I’m not saying I take credit for it, but I would like a percentage of the gross tour revenue, if that’s OK.”
In the interview, Dave also admitted Blur made some big mistakes at the height of their Britpop career and it meant the band were never as big as Oasis in America.
He explained: “We made some fairly poor decisions early on in our career, which meant we had a few hits in America. But we’re nowhere near the kind of biggest celebrities in America, as they [Oasis] are.
“It’s not surprising that they would get some awards for that. They are a great band.”
However, he thinks the rivalry between Blur and Oasis back in the day means they will always be linked together, adding: “We are both now kind of stapled together at the hip. We’re now a sort of eight-legged beast.”
Dave’s comments about Oasis come amid swirling speculation the band will be getting back on the road once again for a series of shows in 2027.
Rumours about another tour announcement were fulled after the promoters behind the Oasis Live ’25 tour were granted a licence to host gigs at Knebworth.
According to BBC News, North Hertfordshire Council approved the application from SJM Concerts with immediate effect.
SJM is allowed to host shows for 125,000 people and the events can go on until the early hours.
It has yet to be confirmed what event or artist the licence is for but rumours suggest Oasis are eyeing a return to Knebworth – the site of their two huge concerts in 1996 – for a record-breaking six shows.
There’s also reports of a 12-night residency in their home city of Manchester at the Etihad Stadium.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Oasis’ schedule is booked. It’s 12 nights at the Etihad over six weeks starting in June.
“They will then play Knebworth six times over a three-week period in September. Dates could be added but for now that’s the master plan.”
