BMW India has opened bookings for the first-ever i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB), ahead of its market launch. The electric luxury sedan will be locally produced at BMW Group’s Chennai plant, becoming the second electric BMW model to be manufactured at the facility and the brand’s first locally produced electric sedan in India.
Bookings for the BMW i5 LWB are now open across the company’s authorised dealer network, while customers can also register their interest through BMW India’s website.

The i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height, making it the longest and largest sedan in its segment, according to BMW. It gets a 3,105mm wheelbase, with the extended dimensions aimed primarily at improving rear-seat space and comfort.
Power comes from a single electric motor producing 268bhp. BMW claims a 0-100kmph acceleration time of 6.7 seconds. The motor is paired with an 81.6kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of up to 669km on the MIDC cycle.
The India-spec i5 LWB has also been engineered with Indian road conditions in mind. It gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance, which BMW says should improve ride comfort and stability across varied road surfaces.
BMW i5 LWB First Edition
To mark the introduction of the i5 LWB, BMW India will offer a limited-run First Edition restricted to 99 customers. This version gets additional rear-seat-focused equipment, including a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder.
The First Edition also features BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pore fine-wood trim and a Silver Bronze inlay. A ‘FIRST EDITION’ laser engraving on the dashboard further differentiates the limited-run model.
The exterior is finished in Carbon Black Metallic with Titanium Bronze accents.
The i5 LWB will join BMW India’s growing locally manufactured electric vehicle portfolio, with the company positioning it as a more spacious and comfort-focused alternative for buyers seeking a premium electric sedan.
