Boy, 14, speared in back during alleged warfare between feuding families in Ngukurr, NT

A teenager has been speared in the back after a community was rocked by an escalating war between feuding families.

On Saturday evening, a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being speared in Ngukurr, a remote community in the Northern Territory about 500km southeast of Darwin.

Police allege the shocking incident occurred just 24 hours after another large disturbance involving members of two separate family groups in the area.

On Friday, September 4, police attended a confrontation between two groups in the remote settlement on the banks of the Roper River in southern Arnhem Land.

No injuries were reported by several people armed with weapons were spoken to by police.

However, a further disturbance happened just 24 hours later, at about 5.35pm between members of the same two groups.

It was reported that a 14-year-old boy was speared in the middle of his back.

The boy was evaluated by CareFlight, received further treatment and remains in a stable condition.

“Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disturbances are working closely with community elders and local leadership groups to de-escalate tensions and prevent further incidents,” an NT Police spokesman said.
