Premiers Brisbane have confirmed star midfielder Lachie Neale’s departure from the club.
The Lions. who sealed a hat-trick of AFL premierships on Saturday with a seven-point grand final win over Fremantle, announced on Wednesday that Neale had “advised” them of his intention to “exercise his rights” as an unrestricted free agent.
Neale, who is set to join Collingwood on a reported three-year deal, made 186 appearances for the Lions after joining the club ahead of the 2019 season.
During his time at the club, Neale won three flags and two Brownlow medals.
Lions list manager Dom Ambrogio said Neale would depart Brisbane with “the club’s best wishes”.
“Lachie has been a great player for the Brisbane Lions, and we thank him for his incredible contribution over his eight seasons,” Ambrogio said.
“We understand Lachie’s reasons for wishing to explore free agency and we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career.”
Suitable free agency compensation the Lions will receive for Neale will be confirmed by the AFL.
