The Lions have signed another one of their in-demand stars to a new deal, with All-Australian forward Logan Morris extending his stay in Brisbane until at least the end of 2029.
Having last week announced the retention of Zac Bailey until 2034 and veteran Dayne Zorko for another season, the Lions on Tuesday confirmed that Morris – who was already under contract for 2027 – had signed for two more years.
Already a winner of two premierships with the Lions at the age of just 21, Morris has kicked 67 goals in 24 appearances this season and is poised to play a key role in Brisbane’s bid to beat Hawthorn in Saturday night’s preliminary final at the MCG.
Having been linked with a move to new club Tasmania, Morris last week ruled out joining the Devils.
There was also speculation that a host of Melbourne clubs were interested in luring the Victorian product back to his home state.
However, Morris has committed to the Lions, who picked him at No.31 in the 2023 national draft.
“I’m happy with where I am and the team I’m playing in, so it was a no-brainer to sign up for another couple years,” he said.
“I was lucky enough to join here three years ago, and I think I joined at a lucky time where the club was in a good space.
“Now that I’ve been here for a few years, I can see that this club is in a good environment.
“I just come into this club every day with a smile on my face, knowing that I can have fun but also get to work
“It’s fun playing in a team that is playing for each other.”
Morris’ re-signing is huge confidence boost for the Lions ahead of this weekend’s battle with the Hawks, who stand in the way of Brisbane reaching a fourth successive grand final.
Morris kicked four goals when Brisbane thrashed Hawthorn by 67 points at the Gabba last month.
“Our brotherhood shows up on the big stage, so hopefully we can get it done (on Saturday night),” he said.
“We’re taking it week by week.”
Morris quashed any concerns about his fitness after failing to finish Brisbane’s game against the Crows because of a corked calf.
“The body’s feeling good. I’m ready to go this weekend,” he said.
Morris’ teammate and fellow forward Charlie Cameron expected the Hawks to learn from their heavy loss to the Lions on August 7.
“They’re a quality side, and they’ll look at that and see what they did wrong and what we did wrong as well at times,” Cameron said.
“We’re looking forward to the match-up. It’s probably different circumstances now. We’re at the (MCG), their home ground and they’ve got an advantage there.
“We know what our best is, and hopefully we can bring it this weekend.
“If we can show what we did against Adelaide … it’ll go a long way.”
Cameron booted five goals against the Crows in one his best performances of the season.
It was a far cry from his quiet display a week earlier against Sydney at the SCG, where he struggled, like most of his teammates.
“I felt embarrassed and disappointed but took a lot of confidence that we had the backing from the coaches and everyone at the club,” he said.
