Bruce Campbell has vowed not to go down the cancer “rabbit hole”, after revealing he has just five years to live “give or take”.
The Evil Dead star opened up about his health battle on The Adam Carolla Show, telling the host: “I’m in a five-year prognosis.
“This is what the type of cancer that I have, which I don’t want to get into, is the current thing is a five-year deal.”
However, the 68-year-old screen star told host Adam that he’s determined not to let the health battle consume him.
Bruce explained: “I’ve decided though, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it.
“The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have exactly what you have. I won’t touch it with a 10 foot pole.”
Bruce admitted the cancer “creeps” him out, because of the “ancillary stuff that it does”, adding: “You don’t die for cancer. You die from what cancer does to you.”
He explained: “There’s a whole mental component. You start getting all this bad news and you’re starting breakfast with a s*** sandwich with a side of what the f***, right?
“For a couple of months as it all comes in. Then you deal with it and then you have to make this decision of, well, do I have to stop everything that I’m doing because of this… Right now, I’m between wax. I feel perfect.”
Bruce is now doing his best to focus on his work – including new movie Ernie and Emma, which he wrote, directed, produced and stars in.
He insisted: “I’m moving on. I got a movie to promote. And when I promote this movie, I have nothing. I’m free and clear when I promote this movie mentally.
“You have to make this decision of, ‘well, okay, but do I have to stop everything that I’m doing because of this?’ Well, no.”
Bruce – who is best known for portraying Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s horror series – took to social media to reveal his cancer diagnosis earlier this year, and admitted it was a “shock” when he was told about it.
He wrote on X: “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an “opportunity,” so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those.
“It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’
“I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”
