British actor Anthony Head, widely known for his performances in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died at the age of 72. His daughters, actors Emily and Daisy Head, confirmed that he died following complications from pneumonia, surrounded by his loved ones.

“It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many,” Emily and Daisy wrote.

“We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in – he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades,” the statement further mentioned.

Head enjoyed a screen career that stretched across several decades, earning recognition in both television and film. While he became a familiar face to international audiences through his role as Rupert Mannion, the former owner of Richmond FC in Ted Lasso, he was already a celebrated figure in British television long before that.

Among his notable performances were the role of the Prime Minister in Little Britain and Uther Pendragon, father of Prince Arthur, in Merlin.

He also appeared in popular series including Motherland, Manchild, Silent Witness, Spooks, Doctor Who and My Family, as well as the cult musical film Repo! The Genetic Opera.

For many viewers in the United States, Head remains best remembered for playing Rupert Giles, the trusted mentor and Watcher in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The role helped establish him as a household name. Although he departed the show’s regular cast during its sixth season, he continued to make guest appearances until the series concluded.

The actor is survived by his daughters Emily and Daisy Head, both of whom have built successful acting careers.

Emily is known for her role as Carli D’Amato in The Inbetweeners, while Daisy has appeared in series such as Harlots, Shadow and Bone and The Gray House.
