Volvo has issued an urgent recall for thousands of vehicles over safety fears.

The Swedish car manufacturer issued the recall on Wednesday after a manufacturing fault was discovered on the front seat head restraints.

“The restraints may not have been manufactured to specifications,” the company said in a recall notice.

“As a result, they may move and detach in the event of a collision.”

Volvo has warned of an “increased risk of serious injury or death” from the fault.

The recall affects 4,141 Volvo EX30 vehicles manufactured between 2024 and 2026.

Cross Country models of the EX30 are also included in the recall.

Mechanical work to repair the faulty head restraint is being offered by Volvo, with the manufacturer in contact with affected owners across Australia.

“Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing asking them to schedule an appointment with their authorised Volvo dealership to have the repair work carried out, free of charge,” Volvo said.

The recall comes after a tumultuous year for EX30 drivers across Australia.

Back in February, Volvo Australia issued two separate recalls for a battery fault in the EX30 that could lead to a vehicle fire.

The components to fix the battery fault faced shipping delays, meaning drivers across Australia were stuck waiting for repairs to be completed.

Volvo subsequently confirmed in June that the parts had arrived and work was underway to replace defective battery modules once distributed across the nation.
