Carmen Electra has suggested a way for her Baywatch character to return for the upcoming reboot.
The 54‑year‑old actress, who played lifeguard Lelani “Lani” McKenzie in the original series from 1997 to 1998 and the spin‑off TV movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, would happily put the red swimsuit back on if producers wanted her involved – suggesting a reunion with her alter-ego’s love interest Cody Madison, played by David Chokachi, who has already signed up for the new version.
She told Fox News Digital: “I could do something. Come in, have another love scene with David Chokachi. Just something really cute and fun. I would be down to get into the water again.”
Electra said their characters’ reconnecting would make sense given their storyline in the original series.
She said: “I think it would be fun. It makes sense. I was David Chokachi’s love interest way back then. I think it would be really fun and why not, you know?”
Cody now owns a beachside bar and mentors younger lifeguards.
She said: “I think it would be so cool if I just came in for an episode to surprise him and say hi. They fall in love again, who knows?”
Electra then reflected on her time on the original Baywatch and why she believes the show became such a global hit. She said the cast played a major role in its success.
She said: “All the cast members made it special.”
The blonde bombshell recalled how shocked viewers were by how revealing the lifeguard outfits were.
She said: “Maybe it was the first time on television you could see so much skin because we really were playing lifeguards, right? So, we could be in these skimpy outfits.”
She added how some viewers were likely left thinking: “Oh my God, what is this? We can see nipples.”
Despite all the flesh on display, the show was actually educational, with viewers able to learn practical skills such as CPR.
She said: “You can also learn something. Because we heard from a lot of people, a lot of fans out there, that they learned so much watching the show.”
The cast actually learned how to do CPR on set, and it stuck with her.
She said: “I learned how to give CPR. I could save someone right now if I needed to.”
However, she said there is one part of returning she would not want to repeat.
She said the training she had to complete when she first joined the cast was extremely difficult.
Electra admitted: “That was really tough.”
The Fox reboot will feature a new generation of lifeguards.
The cast includes Jessica Belkin, Thaddeus LaGrone, Hassie Harrison, Brooks Nader, Noah Beck, and Shay Mitchell.
