Geelong have bounced back spectacularly from last week’s hammering, handing out a club-record 85-point AFLW thrashing to St Kilda.

Jacqueline Parry joined Aishling Moloney as the only Cats to kick six goals in a women’s game as they mauled the Saints 16.4 (100) to 2.3 (15) on Saturday at GMHBA Stadium.

It is Geelong’s biggest AFLW winning margin and just two points short of their highest score, as well as St Kilda’s biggest losing margin.

After making the finals for the first time last season, the Saints are in big early trouble this year with a 0-2 start.

The only negative for Geelong was another hamstring injury in the second term to star on-baller Amy McDonald.

St Kilda’s Amber Clarke was also helped off the field in the third quarter with an ankle injury.

Two-time defending premiers North Melbourne continued their winning streak in round one at Geelong’s expense, restricting them to just 3.9 in a 73-point win.

The Cats’ 158-point turnaround on Saturday puts their season right back on track.

Mick Stinear made sure of a quick rebound as he emphatically scored his first win as Geelong coach, after his storied decade at Melbourne.

The Cats led from the start and star on-baller Georgie Prespakis ran amuck, racking up 20 disposals, including 12 contested possessions and four clearances, in an outstanding first half.

Prespakis finished with a game-high 34 possessions.

Co-captain Becky Webster became the first Geelong player to reach 75 AFLW games, and she celebrated the milestone with a command performance off half-back, with 30 disposals.

Chloe Scheer kicked two goals, her first in the AFLW since the 2023 preliminary final. The star Cats forward has been plagued with injuries over the past two seasons.

Saints midfielder Georgia Patrikios was a rare shining light on a terrible day for the Saints, also amassing 30 possessions.
