A 22-year-old man has been charged after allegedly using a CCTV camera as a weapon to assault another man before attempting to burn down a home.
Police were called to a Wellington Road home in Birrong, in Sydney’s southwest, following reports of an assault about 1am on Tuesday.
At the scene, officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command learned a 22-year-old man had allegedly assaulted a 50-year-old man.
The younger man then damaged the property by removing two CCTV cameras, police say.
He allegedly used one of the devices to assault the older man.
Police were told the 22-year-old then retrieved a jerry can from a nearby car and poured accelerant on the front of the home.
He then allegedly attempted to set the property alight.
The 50-year-old man was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial injuries, but did not require further treatment.
The 22-year-old was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of stalking with the intent to cause fear of physical harm, assault causing actual bodily harm, destroying or damaging property and attempting to damage property by fire/explosion.
He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.
