The new designs feature athletes from three of the competing divisions, including athletics, 3×3 wheelchair basketball and gymnastics, and will be available for customers paying with cash from July 15.

The first design, featuring an artistic gymnast, will be available to shoppers from July 15, with the wheelchair basketball coin available the following week and the athletics coin from July 29.

The three coins will also be available to purchase as a set from the Mint from July 15.

“Each coin features a Commonwealth Games star centrepiece in Australian team colours, with ‘Team AUS’ and ‘Commonwealth Games’ font wrapping around the star,” the Mint said in a statement on Monday.

“We’ll be proudly cheering on our Aussie athletes as they take on the world stage in Glasgow.”

Royal Australia Mint CEO Emily Martin advised customers to “check your change” after shopping at Woolworths for the chance to take home the new designs.

“The coins celebrate the Commonwealth Games as one of the world’s largest international multi-sport events and recognise the achievements of our athletes,” she said.

The new coins will mark the third collaboration between the Commonwealth Games and Woolworths.

Commonwealth Games CEO Craig Phillips saying the partnership will give Australians “a tangible way to connect with our team.”

“With their support, a new generation of athletes will head to Glasgow ready to make their mark and even create a few coin-worthy moments of their own,” Mr Phillips said.

The Commonwealth Games will begin on July 24 in Glasgow with bowls and basketball among the first events to compete.
