The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, has decided to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, while keeping open the possibility of fighting either as part of the National Democratic Alliance or independently.
The decision was taken at the party’s national executive committee meeting in New Delhi on Monday, chaired by Chirag Paswan. Senior party leaders and executive members discussed organisational expansion, electoral preparations and the party’s strategy for upcoming Assembly elections.

Uttar Pradesh emerged as a key focus of the meeting as the LJP (Ram Vilas) seeks to expand its political presence beyond Bihar. Party leaders said the organisation is working to strengthen its network across several states and sees political and social space in Uttar Pradesh as an opportunity to increase its footprint.
While the party remains committed to the NDA, sources said it is preparing for an independent contest if seat-sharing negotiations do not meet its expectations. The party has not yet finalised the number of seats it plans to contest in Uttar Pradesh.
Chirag Paswan asked party workers and office-bearers to make the organisation stronger and more effective and intensify political activities in states heading for elections. He also called for the party’s ideology and policies to be taken to all sections of society.
The national executive reviewed membership campaigns, booth-level expansion, grassroots outreach and preparations for upcoming elections. The leadership also discussed strengthening the party’s organisational structure in states where its presence remains limited.
The party reiterated its commitment to the ideas and ideals of its founder, late Ram Vilas Paswan, and said it would continue to focus on public service and issues affecting ordinary people. It also reaffirmed its slogan, “Bihar First, Bihari First”, while highlighting the expansion of the organisation under Chirag Paswan.
The decision to enter the Uttar Pradesh electoral contest marks an effort by the LJP (Ram Vilas) to expand its political footprint and project itself as a force beyond Bihar. The party’s final electoral strategy in Uttar Pradesh is likely to depend on seat-sharing talks with NDA allies and the wider political arithmetic in the state.
