Chris Evans’ “priorities have shifted” since he became a father.

The Captain America: The First Avenger star, 45, welcomed a daughter with his wife Alba Baptista in October 2025 and he’s now admitted becoming a parent now means he needs a “really good reason to go to work”.

Speaking during a panel at the 2026 Boston FanExpo, Chris told the audience: “I have a daughter now and … you need a really good reason to want to go to work now. So, you know, priorities have shifted a bit.”

Chris and Alba – who married in 2023 – have always made a concerted effort to keep their relationship out of the spotlight and they have rarely made any public comments about their daughter since her birth.

However, the Captain America star previously revealed that he had a long-term ambition to start a family.

Chris – who was first linked to Alba in 2022 – told People: “That’s absolutely something I want: wife, kids, building a family. When you read about most of the best artists, whether it’s actors, painters, writers, most of them [admit] it wasn’t the work they made [that they are most proud of], it was about the relationships; the families they created, the love they found, the love they shared.”

Despite this, Chris admitted that he was always likely to keep personal news to himself. He explained: “Some things you want just for you, or just for my family and my friends.”

The movie star also explained that he was ready to take a step back from Hollywood and focus on other things in his life.

He said: “The most enjoyable aspect of my career right now is feeling secure enough to take my foot off the gas. I feel like I have a bit more freedom to take time away from the industry and still find projects that will satisfy my creative appetite when I return.”

Despite keeping their daughter’s life out of the spotlight, Chris did previously open up about popping the question to Alba in Portuguese admitting he “screwed up” his marriage proposal.

Speaking to The Knot, Chris said: “I proposed to my wife in Portuguese. She’s Portuguese, so I learned how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese. I had practiced it all week…

“I got really nervous when it came time to do it. I actually think I screwed it up, but I still know it … I had practiced it so much that while I’d be making breakfast and you almost just start saying it out loud. Like, ‘Oh God, that’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head! It’s gonna let the cat out of the bag.”
