Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday distributed 200 bicycles to Class 9 girl students of government schools at the Assembly premises under the Vidya Vahini Yojna.
The initiative aims to make commuting to school easier for girls, support continuity in their education and promote confidence and self-reliance, the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

Interacting with the students, Gupta said bicycles were not merely a means of transport but also a way to support girls’ education and help them pursue their dreams. Around 1.40 lakh Class 9 girl students are being provided bicycles under the scheme this year, she said.
“Investment in girls’ education is an investment in the bright future of society,” Gupta said.
In a statement, the Delhi CMO said the Vidya Vahini Yojna reflects the government’s larger vision of removing everyday barriers to girls’ education, improving access to schools and enabling young students to pursue their studies with greater confidence and independence.
“As a parent, there is a special joy in seeing a daughter ride with confidence and move closer to her dreams. Today, the Vidya Vahini family is 3,200+ daughters strong, and our dream is to see it grow to 1.40 lakh daughters across Delhi. May every daughter ride further, dream bigger and shine brighter. Their dreams are Delhi’s dreams,” Gupta tweeted.
Education Minister Ashish Sood said the initiative was an important step towards helping talented girl students become self-reliant and pursue their aspirations.
