SES and NSW Fire and Rescue crews worked to free the man before he was handed over to NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition.

The man was then flown to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

The 44-year-old woman who was allegedly behind the wheel of the ute during the incident was charged with negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm and breaching bail.

She was refused bail and will appear in Bail Division court on Wednesday.
