Police officers have swarmed a street in an inner Sydney suburb after a driver led them on a high-speed car chase.

Police say the man involved in the standoff was in a vehicle that led officers on a high-speed chase from Newtown to Alexandria early on Friday.

The chase reportedly took officers from Newtown through the M8 tunnel, where at least six police cars were spotted in pursuit of the white sedan.
