Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are planning a “big wedding” in the future.

The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in the living room of their Portugese house, with just their five children in attendance, on 11 August, with the date chosen because it marked the 10th anniversary of their first meeting at the Gucci store in Madrid and a “crazy year” of “work commitments, competitions, kids” meaning they didn’t have enough time to plan a massive celebration for that date.

Georgina told Vogue magazine in an interview conducted before the wedding: “In the future we will have a big wedding, so we can celebrate with family and friends…

“When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds.

“And now I’m saying: no. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home.

“Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: We have all of that within reach every day.

“But something intimate—that’s more unusual for us.

“We’ve chosen to do it in the living room of our house here, where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives. In 30 years’ time I want the children to think, Something wonderful happened at this table—the wedding vows of our parents.”

Cristiano quipped: “It probably won’t be the same table. We might change the decor.”

After the ceremony, the family travelled an hour to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, where the priest closed off a small sanctuary to give them a blessing.

Cristiano noted: “I tend to avoid places where there are crowds.”

Georgina admitted after the wedding it had been a special and emotional day.

She told Vogue: “It was exactly as I’d imagined it. Intimate, full of love, and with our family in the most important starring role. I couldn’t hold back the tears.”

But although she had visited the shrine before, she had never attended its Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, where they celebrated Mass after the blessing, and in the moment she “felt a peace and an energy that are very hard to describe”.

She added: “I needed nothing more: my husband, my children, our home, our faith, and our love.”
