Call it a bizarre twist of fate or divine intervention. A woman who plunged into Karnataka’s Kumaradhara river in a suicide bid was bitten by a crocodile, an attack that inadvertently saved her life. Her screams for help alerted police personnel and local residents, who rushed to her rescue and pulled her out of the water, police said.
The incident took place near the Kumaradhara bridge at Kukke Subrahmanya on Wednesday night, reported news agency PTI. The woman suffered minor injuries and received first aid at a local hospital before being counselled and sent home with her family, according to police.

Police said the woman was distressed over personal matters when she entered the river intending to end her life. A crocodile bit her while she was in the water, prompting her to cry out for help, a senior police officer told PTI.
Staff members at a nearby lodge heard her screams and informed the Subrahmanya police. Police personnel reached the location and, with help from local residents, pulled her from the river and brought her to safety.
She was then taken to a local hospital, where she was given first aid for her injuries. Police subsequently contacted her relatives and counselled her before allowing her to leave with them.
No complaint has been registered in connection with the incident. Police said the woman’s identity had been withheld at her family’s request.
