Essendon interim head coach Dean Solomon has delivered a timeline on the Bombers’ head coach announcement, telling media he’s expecting his full-time replacement to be appointed “early next week”.
The interim coach dropped out of the race for the full-time gig two weeks ago after a horror run of results since taking over.
Former Bombers head coach James Hird has bean heavily reported as the favourite to take up the role, with Adelaide coaching director Murray Davis, Sydney assistant Mark McVeigh and Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham all still in the running too.
Solomon told media on Thursday morning that the coaching search would “take care of itself in the coming week or so”.
“I’m not responsible for the decision of the new coach, but I have a lot of trust in the decision that will be made and it’ll be the right coach for this football club at the right time,” he said.

“They expect that early next week they they’ll announce a coach.”
Solomon said he was unable to give an update on his own future with the club beyond this season, maintaining his family living in northern NSW was a major factor in the decision.
