Delhi Capitals have added another experienced name to their revamped coaching setup, appointing former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as their bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027. The franchise announced the appointment through a social media video featuring Vaas himself, completing another key addition after Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh.

Vaas, one of Sri Lanka’s most successful fast bowlers, finished his international career with 355 wickets in 111 Tests and 400 wickets in 322 ODIs. A member of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup-winning squad, the left-arm pacer was known for his accuracy, ability to swing the new ball and effectiveness across conditions.

The 52-year-old also has considerable coaching experience. He has worked with Sri Lanka’s senior team and feeder squads, served as a bowling coach with Ireland during the 2016 T20 World Cup, and worked with New Zealand’s fast bowlers as a consultant. He has also held coaching roles with Sri Lanka in subsequent years.

His appointment marks another step in Delhi’s overhaul as the franchise looks to build a stronger support staff for the 2027 season.

GANGULY AND YUVRAJ LEAD REVAMP

Former India captain Ganguly was appointed Delhi Capitals’ head coach on October 6, returning to a franchise he has been associated with since 2019. The role marks his first stint as head coach in the IPL after leading Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.

Yuvraj followed on October 13, taking up his first formal coaching role as assistant and batting coach. The former India all-rounder, who played pivotal roles in the country’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, will reunite with Ganguly as Delhi seek their maiden IPL title.

The changes come after Delhi parted ways with their previous coaching group following two seasons under head coach Hemang Badani. The franchise finished sixth in IPL 2026 after missing the playoffs in 2025.

With Vaas bringing international bowling expertise alongside Ganguly’s leadership and Yuvraj’s batting experience, Delhi will hope the revamped coaching team can help turn their title ambitions into reality.
