A Delhi Police constable deployed for crowd control during the Opposition’s protest on Wednesday alleged that he was surrounded and assaulted by a group of protesters. The personnel claimed that his uniform was torn and that he was attacked with fingernails and bitten while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was being detained.
The constable, identified as Ankit Kasana, is posted with the Parliament Police and was on duty when the INDIA-bloc MPs launched a surprise protest near Jantar Mantar, which led to massive chaos in the national capital.

According to Kasana, around 30 to 35 people, including men and women, surrounded and attacked him. He alleged that the crowd abused him, tore his uniform and assaulted him with fingernails and teeth.
Kasana underwent a medical examination at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) in Delhi following the alleged assault.
Speaking to India Today TV at the hospital, Kasana appeared emotional and said he was frightened after the incident. He also expressed concern for his safety and that of his family.
“As soon as the detention happened, around 35 to 40 people saw what was happening and started attacking me. There were some women, some men and even some senior citizens among them. They did not see that I was trying to do my duty. They tore my uniform and pulled me from behind. They scratched me with their fingernails. One man bit my hand and took a piece of flesh out,” he alleged.
He added, “I kept saying, ‘Brother, please leave me, please leave me’. I was literally pleading with them. Thankfully, my staff came and helped me and rescued me from them. Otherwise, perhaps I would not be sitting here today.”
The constable alleged that he had earlier faced misbehaviour during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest as well. He said police personnel deployed during protests are responsible for maintaining law and order but can themselves become targets when tensions rise.
FIR LIKELY AFTER MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Delhi Police are currently getting Kasana medically examined and an FIR may be registered in connection with the alleged assault.
The allegations have not been independently verified. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident and the response of the protesters involved is awaited.
The alleged assault took place during the opposition’s protest near Jantar Mantar, at a time when police were detaining Rahul Gandhi, adding to the confrontation between protesters and security personnel at the site.
