A 23-year-old woman who had been living separately from her husband died by suicide in Delhi’s Hari Nagar, with her father telling police that she had been under stress over concerns related to the care and custody of her child.
According to police, a PCR call was received on July 8, 2026 regarding a woman who had allegedly fallen from the third floor of her residence while on fire. A police team from Hari Nagar Police Station immediately reached the spot and found that the injured woman, Laxmi, had already been shifted to hospital by the public.

During the enquiry, Laxmi’s father, Jahan Singh, told police that she had married Rajender and the couple had a son. He said matrimonial disputes arose between Laxmi and Rajender in 2023, after which she had been residing with him.
He further told police that Laxmi had been working at a clothing store in Uttam Nagar, but had left the job four to five days before the incident. According to him, she had been under stress since then, particularly over concerns regarding the care and custody of her child. He did not level any allegations against any person in connection with the incident.
Police said the Crime Team inspected the scene and seized relevant exhibits as per procedure. No suicide note was found during the inspection.
Police said the body has been preserved in the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
