A new electronic music festival has been announced for Perth, with organisers hoping it will bring a fresh festival experience to a unique city location.
Drift, presented by Untitled Group, is set to bring together local and international electronic music acts and will land at Ozone Reserve on February 28 ahead of the WA Labour Day public holiday.
It will then head to Brisbane on March 6.
While the line-up is yet to be shared, organisers promised it will be “carefully curated” with “a focus on musical discovery and a sense of exploration”.
Across two stages, Drift will move from the afternoon into the night, with a bold stage design helping to shape the atmosphere and create an immersive setting for festivalgoers.
The festival’s name is inspired by the action of “drifting off” — the moment between being awake and asleep, when the body enters a dreamlike state.
“It’s the starting point for a festival built around great music, distinctive settings and a sense of discovery,” a media statement read.
Ahead of the festival’s debut, Untitled Group introduced The Drift Study, a cryptic campaign exploring the subconscious minds of Perth and Brisbane.
The campaign invites curious locals to enter a mysterious sleep study, with a trail of clues and a dedicated website offering the first glimpse into Drift’s dreamlike world.
Untitled Group’s co-founder and managing partner Nicholas Greco said the team was excited to bring the event to two cities with such strong electronic music communities.
“There’s something really special about launching a brand new festival, and with Drift, we wanted to create something that goes beyond the traditional festival experience,” he said.
“Built around the feeling of getting lost in the music and discovering something unexpected, Drift will bring international and local artists into unique settings.”
Untitled Group is Australia’s largest independent music and events company and the team behind camping festival Beyond The Valley, Pitch Music and Arts Festival and Ability Fest.
This year’s Beyond The Valley is bringing the likes of John Summit, Black Eyed Peas, Skepta and Ocean Alley to Barunah Plains in Hesse, 126 km west of Melbourne.
