Hyderabad: Speaking here on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s anniversary on Saturday, October 31, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy alleged that the first instance of ‘vote chori’ was right after Independence, in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Addressing media after paying tribute to the leader on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas along with BJP state chief N Ramchander Rao, Reddy said that it was the then Nehru family’s ‘vote chori’ that got Jawaharlal Nehru the prime ministership.
He said that had Patel become the PM instead, the country would have been very different today.
Nehru’s ‘backroom deals and selfish policies created confusion in the integration process of the princely states,’ alleged Reddy, according to the Times of India.
He claimed that Nehru, as the PM then, did not respond when the Nizam’s militia went on a rampage across villages in Hyderabad.
However, Patel deployed the military under ‘Operation Polo’, brought the Nizam’s autocratic rule to an end and hoisted the Tricolour here.
He blamed Nehru’s policies for Pakistan-sponsored counterfeit currency, illegal arms trafficking and bloodshed. He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with fulfilling Sardar Patel’s vision through the abrogation of Article 370.
Apart from Reddy and Rao as chief guests, the attendees included Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, state general secretary N Gautham Rao. BJP state vice-president Kasam Venkateshwarlu, and BJP state spokesperson NV Subhash.
