The cause of death of US influencer Emilie Kiser’s son Trigg has been revealed one year after the toddler drowned in the family’s backyard pool in Arizona.
According to the Maricopa County medical examiner’s report released on Tuesday, Trigg died of anoxic brain injury due to drowning.
His manner of death is listed as an accident, and the document states that the injury occurred after he “drowned in a residential pool”.
The drowning happened in May last year while Kiser was out for dinner.
Kiser’s husband Brady was watching Trigg and their younger son Teddy, now one-year-old, when Trigg fell into the family’s unfenced pool.
Trigg tragically died in hospital six days later on May 18.
According to a Chandler Police Department incident report, the pool was usually protected by a net-like cover, but it had been removed for upcoming cleaning.
Brady initially told police he had lost sight of his son for three to five minutes before discovering him in the pool.
However, a report by the CPD later cited video evidence that Trigg “was in the backyard unsupervised for more than nine minutes, and in the water for about seven of those minutes.”
Police had recommended Brady be charged with felony child abuse, but authorities did not go ahead with it because there was no “reasonable likelihood of a conviction”.
In Kiser’s first interview since Trigg’s death, she considered ending her marriage but eventually forgave Brady through empathy and respect, realising it could have just as easily being her in his situation.
The couple announced on July 3 that they are expecting another child.
Kiser told her 7 million followers across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube that she was “so grateful and excited to share that we will be welcoming another baby into our family”.
“This news feels very surreal and has already been such a bright light to us during some of our darkest days,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of her growing baby bump.
