Energy prices across regional Queensland are about to drop following a major cost ruling from the regulator – giving residents, small businesses and large customers some cost of living relief.
The Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) released its final determination on regulated electricity prices, which revealed households will pay about $151 less for electricity.
Small businesses will pay $212 less.
Household bills will reduce by 6.9 per cent from July 1, while businesses will drop 8.1 per cent, but the actual bill change will vary depending on a customer’s electricity use and whether any rebates or concessions apply.
QCA Chair Malcolm Roberts said this year’s bill decreases were mostly due to lower default market offers for southeast Queensland set by the Australian Energy Regulator.
Under the Queensland Government’s tariff policy, electricity tariffs in regional Queensland are aligned with tariffs in southeast Queensland, ensuring most regional customers pay less than the actual cost of supplying electricity in their region.
