To say it’s been a challenging 2026 for Oscar Piastri would be an understatement.

The Australian driver hasn’t won a race in more than a year and sits seventh in the F1 drivers championship – in a season marred by poor luck, errors and reduced pace.

But F1 legend and former world champion Damon Hill thinks Piastri can still win the championship in the future – so long as he’s in the right environment.

“It could be [at] McLaren,” Hill told this masthead.

Elsewhere on the grid, famous commentator Martin Brundle has caught a moment with Kim Kardashian.

Reminder, Kim K copped some flack from F1 fans for ignoring Brundle during the Monaco Grand Prix.

However, the two seemed to have patched things up

“Did I not know the rules,” she laughed. “Did we get on the wrong foot.”

We’ve just heard from McLaren boss Zak Brown who was asked if he had some stern words for his drivers after their collision in the sprint race.

“That was a ‘don’t do that again’, and we didn’t say please, that’s an order,” he told Sky Sports.

“You can’t have that, it was unnecessary result for the team when a lot of pressure is on.”

The stunning scenes at Bathurst on Sunday afternoon, when on the 161st and final lap of the 1000-kilometre race Anton De Pasquale ran out of fuel while leading in his Camaro, had us thinking: Has a similar thing happened in modern F1?

Let’s just say, don’t worry, Anton – it’s happened to the absolute best of them.

The legendary Ayrton Senna ran out of fuel in his McLaren while running second to Nigel Mansell at the 1991 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Staggeringly, Senna still finished fourth – before Mansell, on his victory lap, gave him a lift back to the pits on the sidepod of his Williams.

Reigning world champion Lando Norris apologised to his McLaren team after a final-lap collision with teammate Oscar Piastri during the spring race at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Norris, running fifth behind Piastri in fourth, attempted to overtake his teammate but clipped the Australian’s rear tyre with his front wheel, ‌sending his teammate spinning into the wall.

“Sorry about that. Obviously, I didn’t want that to happen, ‌but I thought I was fully alongside. I just ‌ran out of space at the apex, but I was there,” Norris said over the team radio.

Norris has also copped scrutiny on social media for his response in a post-race interview.
