Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of trying to build an “ultra Leftist” mindset in the country and alleged that there was a deep conspiracy to weaken institutions created by the Constitution. He said the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies were attacking constitutional bodies and trying to create distrust around them.
He also criticised the Congress leader’s march to the Supreme Court, saying such a move was against the constitutional scheme. Fadnavis said the Supreme Court’s response was correct and alleged that Rahul Gandhi and his supporters were working to damage democracy.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme in Nagpur, Fadnavis said, “We condemn the way the Congress and its INDI alliance partners are attacking constitutional institutions. Congress needs to look inward. It has adopted a new policy to create anarchy in the country by invoking the Constitution while plotting to neutralise it.” He alleged that by spreading falsehoods and rumours, the Congress and its leaders, especially Rahul Gandhi, had tried to discredit democratic institutions created by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
“Whether it is the Election Commission, the Supreme Court, the CAG, or the RBI, they are attempting to undermine every institution created by the Constitution because they have no faith in the Constitution or in democracy. This is a conspiracy to deny the Constitution and to create a public perception that constitutional institutions cannot deliver justice,” Fadnavis said. He added that through such messaging, these parties were asking people to reject these institutions and the Constitution itself. “Rahul Gandhi is trying to establish this ultra Leftist mindset in the country and a deep conspiracy is underway,” he said.
Questioning the Congress and INDIA bloc’s “march for democracy” to the Supreme Court, Fadnavis asked why the Chief Justice of India should come out and meet those taking part in the morcha. “If a judge or the Chief Justice steps out of court to discuss pending matters with anyone, that would be a breach of the Constitution. That creates a very different kind of arrangement that our Constitution does not recognize,” he said. He said the apex court’s response was “absolutely correct” and added that if anyone wanted remedies outside the judiciary, then under the separation of powers, petitions should be addressed to the President, Prime Minister or Parliament.
Fadnavis also referred to the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975 and said amendments were made at the time so that issues of fundamental rights could not be taken to the courts. “People could not go to the High Courts or the Supreme Court for fundamental rights. The entire opposition at that time fought and restored Dr Ambedkar’s Constitution. So no matter how many fronts you (Congress) raise against the Constitution, we will not let Dr Ambedkar’s Constitution be harmed,” he said. “The country will not tolerate anti-constitutional activities. We will spare no effort to save the Constitution and democracy. This is a warning to Rahul Gandhi,” he added.
The chief minister also said the Congress should examine its leadership to understand the reason for its repeated defeats. “This is a rejected leadership. It is relaunched repeatedly and fails. Because of repeated defeats, Congress has reached a mindset of anarchy,” he said in a swipe at Rahul Gandhi. Asked if foreign powers could be behind recent protests, Fadnavis said foreign platforms were effectively following an algorithm. He said that when those platforms were summoned before a parliamentary committee, they admitted that various messages had been boosted with money and that the source of that money was unknown. He claimed they had said it could have come from abroad. Overall, Fadnavis used the occasion to accuse the Congress, Rahul Gandhi and their allies of attacking constitutional institutions, mishandling democratic processes and failing to reflect on their political setbacks.
