The family of a Queensland woman who died in Bali will pass on donations to environmental causes after paying to get her body back from Indonesia.
Brianna Cronin, 29, fell to her death at a popular clifftop tourist spot in Bali on Saturday.
The Cronin family have raised more than $35,000 in donations to bring her body home, saying extra money will go toward an ecology charity.
“If you knew Brianna, you know she lit up every room she walked into,” the family says in the fundraiser.
“She was a kindred spirit, quirky, bubbly and endlessly curious, with a laugh that pulled everyone in. She was a friend to everyone she met, a caring sister and a loving daughter and granddaughter.”
Ms Cronin fell some 80m to her death from a cliff at the Kelingking Beach on Penida Island, east of Denpasar, on Saturday.
The beach sits below steep cliffs and a very popular lookout. A lifeguard was alerted on Saturday morning that Ms Cronin was stranded on a clifftop, local police said, and as the lifeguard organised help Ms Cronin fell.
Her family say she was well travelled and passionate about nature.
“Brianna felt most at home in nature. She would be the one wandering off the track to look at a mushroom, crouching beside tiny wildflowers, or gently holding a python while the rest of us kept our distance,” they said.
“She practised yoga with grace and joy, climbed mountains, explored rainforests, and travelled the world with wide-open eyes, from the lakes and peaks of Europe to the canals of Venice.
“In 2022 she proudly graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts, throwing her cap to the sky the way she met all of life: arms open.”
Ms Cronin had designs on building solar powered greenhouses, and funds left after her body was returned would go toward “making that dream real”.
“We are deeply grateful to our families and friends, and to Brianna’s friends and colleagues, for your love, support and condolences,” the Cronin family said.
“To the consular staff and officials in Bali and Australia, thank you for taking care of her. We also extend our heartfelt sympathy to other families who have lost loved ones overseas.”
