A fighter jet has crashed in eastern France, leaving at least one person dead and a second crew member unaccounted for.
The Mirage 2000D combat aircraft crashed near the eastern city of Nancy late on Tuesday, the armed forces ministry said on Wednesday.
The crew consisted of a fighter pilot and a weapons systems officer from the French Air and Space Force.
The body of one crew member has been recovered but not yet identified and a search for the second crew member is ongoing.
The aircraft had taken off from the Nancy-Ochey Air Base and was returning from a night-flight training mission, according to the base commander.
An investigation into the cause of the crash, near the village of Rogéville, has begun.
The Mirage 2000D is a two-seat supersonic fighter-bomber designed mainly for strikes against ground targets in complex environments.
