Police subsequently reached the spot and arrested both suspects along with their weapons.

According to preliminary information, the robbery took place while the recovery agent was returning on his motorcycle after collecting loan repayments from customers in the area.

He was carrying around Rs 1.5 lakh in a bag when two youths on a motorcycle allegedly began following him.

ROBBERY AT GUNPOINT

The two suspects reportedly intercepted the agent near Jamunapar and threatened him at gunpoint before snatching his bag containing the collected money and his mobile phone.

After committing the robbery, the accused allegedly attempted to flee from the spot on their motorcycle.

The agent raised an alarm immediately after the incident, drawing the attention of people in the vicinity. Hearing his cries for help, nearby villagers gathered at the scene and joined the pursuit of the fleeing suspects.

The villagers managed to catch both men before they could escape. Following their apprehension, the suspects were reportedly tied to an electric pole and beaten by an enraged crowd. Both allegedly sustained injuries during the assault.

The incident triggered a commotion in the locality, with residents gathering at the spot after learning about the robbery and the subsequent capture of the suspects.

BOTH ACCUSED ARRESTED

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from Gaurichak police station reached the location and took the two suspects into custody. Police also seized weapons from the arrested men.

According to the police, a total of four criminals were involved in carrying out the robbery, while two of them have been arrested so far.

The remaining two suspects are yet to be apprehended, and further investigation is expected to establish their identities and roles in the crime.

There were also reports that gunshots had been fired during the incident. However, police categorically denied that any shots were fired, contradicting claims circulating about the alleged use of firearms during the episode.

The recovery agent was reportedly carrying the money collected from customers as part of his routine duties when he was targeted by the suspects.

The loss of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh and his mobile phone has brought attention to the risks faced by field staff tasked with collecting cash payments.
