Sean Darcy has no interest in leaving Fremantle and the Dockers want him to stay, despite the ruckman being unable to break into their finals team.
The Dockers currently aren’t looking at former Magpie Bobby Hill as an option as they ponder how to take their list from grand finalist to premiers.
Darcy, 28, was previously coach Justin Longmuir’s No.1 ruckman but was limited to just seven games this season between injuries and being out of favour.
In his absence, Luke Jackson stood up as a genuine star ruckman, with Mason Cox pinch-hitting as a ruck-forward.
But Darcy, who won the 2021 Doig Medal as Fremantle’s best and fairest and is contracted until the end of 2030, doesn’t want to look elsewhere.
“Sean wants to stay, and we want Sean to stay,” Dockers football boss Joe Brierty told reporters on Thursday.
“That’s where it sits at the moment. I think he’s got a fire in his belly to get back in the 23.
“He’s a Doig medallist and we talk about the calibre of the player and when he’s up and playing his best footy.
“He needs to get his body right and he needs that continuity, and we’re a better team when Sean’s up and going.
“Our discussions have been he needs to work on a few aspects of his game – I think he’s clear on what that looks like, but Sean’s not entertaining anything from anyone else.
“He’s contracted with the club for a number of years to come, so I see him being in the purple.”
Norm Smith medallist Hill has indicated he wants to revive his career after quitting Collingwood in July for personal reasons.
“We haven’t had any discussions with Bobby or his management about coming to the club,” Brierty said.
“We’ll always look at everything we can with players that might make our list better and consider that as a list management group.
“But as it stands here and now, we haven’t entertained anything with Bobby.”
Brierty said Fremantle haven’t spoken to Sydney’s Chad Warner, one of the five Swans players suspended for the back end of this season.
West Australian Warner is a free agent next year.
Nathan O’Driscoll will explore his trade options but also has a multi-year deal on the table from Fremantle.
O’Driscoll played 17 games this year but was dropped ahead of the semi-final against Geelong and didn’t feature again.
