A local footy player is fighting for life after suffering critical injuries during a match in Melbourne’s north.

Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance and Advanced Life Support paramedics were called to the Lalor Reserve after a player was injured during a men’s reserve game between Lalor and Epping shortly before 1pm Saturday.

The 27-year-old player sustained head injuries and was rushed to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

The Epping Football Netball Club said both the reserves and seniors matches had been abandoned after the player’s injury.

“We will provide updates on the situation where when appropriate,” a statement read.

“For now, we keep everyone involved in our sincerest thoughts and sincerely thank everyone who assisted during and after the incident.”
