Dockers young gun Murphy Reid has purchased a multi million-dollar East Fremantle property in what the purple army hope is a sign of his long-term commitment to Perth.

The 19-year-old — who hails from Victoria and has been a key part of his ladder leading side’s stellar year — has bought a four bedroom, two bathroom home on a 509sqm block in the southern suburb for a whopping $2.35 million.

The purchase has reignited speculation about how much the rising star earns per season.

While his estimated earnings for this season are around $250,000, the property’s purchase price indicates an income will likely be closer to $700,000 when his contract extension kicks-in in 2028 and 2029.

Set to turn 20 next month, he has beat the average age for a first house purchase by 15 years.

His new family-sized home has ample room for partner Charlize McRae, who moved from Melbourne to be with him. His parents are also regular visitors to Perth.

Reid — who spoke about purchasing a property to Channel Seven after Fremantle’s win over Gold Coast on Sunday — had only been to Perth for one night before he became a Docker in November 2024, as draft pick number 17.

Before buying his own home, Reid spent some time living around the corner with Fremantle vice-captain Andy Brayshaw and his fiancée, Lizzie.

He has long spoken warmly of Perth’s lifestyle and its weather, and has clearly embraced the Docker’s heartland in the Port City.

The footballer follows in the footsteps of many AFL stars before him, by securing his own place on the property ladder as quickly as possible. Mentors in the sector, as well as the footballers themselves, encourage each other to use their incomes to secure their own housing.

Renowned footballers Luke Shuey, Matt Priddis, Elliot Yeo, Glen Jakovich, Jeremy McGovern, Jack Darling and Jack Redden are among those who have taken property ownership a step further, by having investment properties or doing a property development.

East Fremantle value have increased 15 per cent over the past year to a median of $2.3 million. The median has jumped 84 per cent over the past five years, valued for its riverside location, proximity to bustling Fremantle and its heritage homes.

Set close to the historic George St district, the house embraces modern comfort, along with original atmosphere of a weatherboard cottage.

Wide wooden floorboards, a jarrah fireplace, French doors and an original green Metters stove are set against white timber cabinetry, a smart laundry, walk-in robes and storage and an automatic gate.

The river can been seen from the front gate, and the garden deck that overlooks a green oasis, with a cascading bougainvillea, a row of olive trees, a big frangipani tree and a garden shed.
