The latest row has brought renewed attention to several controversies that have followed Ranveer throughout his career. AIB Knockout and public backlash

One of the earliest major controversies in Ranveer’s career came with the AIB Knockout roast, where he appeared alongside Arjun Kapoor and which was hosted by Karan Johar. The comedy event faced backlash over explicit jokes and adult humour, leading to FIRs and widespread criticism from political groups and social media users.

Ranveer also faced criticism after an old clip featuring Anushka Sharma resurfaced online. During a public interaction, he allegedly made an inappropriate remark to the actor, prompting immediate backlash from viewers who described the comment as sexist.

Nude photoshoot and advertisement controversy

Another major controversy erupted when Ranveer posed nude for a magazine photoshoot that quickly went viral. While several celebrities defended the shoot as artistic expression, others accused the actor of obscenity. The controversy escalated to police complaints and legal scrutiny, turning the photoshoot into a nationwide talking point.

The actor also landed in controversy over a campaign for Jack & Jones. Critics accused the advertisement of objectifying women and promoting problematic messaging. The campaign was eventually pulled down following outrage online.

Padmaavat protests and Daiva remarks

Ranveer was also caught in the storm surrounding Padmaavat, which faced protests across India over alleged historical inaccuracies. Violent demonstrations, political opposition and threats against the cast kept the film in headlines for months.

Years later, the actor faced another backlash after mimicking Daiva ritual associated with Kantara at an event in Goa and referring to it as a “female ghost”. The remarks drew criticism from several people who viewed them as disrespectful to a sacred cultural tradition. Ranveer later issued a public apology.
