Rajasthan Police have solved the sensational murder and robbery case of an elderly woman in Jaipur district’s Sambhar, arresting her married niece and the niece’s boyfriend for allegedly plotting and carrying out the crime to fund their lifestyle and partying expenses.
The case came to light after the murder of Kamla Devi, a resident of Tejya Ka Bas in Sambhar, whose body was found in her home on July 30. Gold and silver jewellery along with cash were also reported missing, prompting suspicions of a robbery-cum-murder.

According to Sambhar Lake Police Station SHO Ram Milan Meena, a complaint was lodged by Kamla Devi’s son-in-law, Prakash Narayan Sharma, alleging that unidentified persons had killed the woman and stolen valuables from the house.
Given the gravity of the crime, police launched an extensive investigation, examining CCTV footage, collecting technical evidence and tracking digital leads with the assistance of the cyber cell.
The probe soon led investigators to Lalita, the victim’s niece. During questioning, Lalita allegedly confessed to her role in the crime. Based on her statement, police arrested her boyfriend, Bablu Meena, who is accused of helping execute the murder and theft.
Police said the duo had carefully planned the crime after conducting a recce of the house. Since Lalita was a close relative of the victim, she was familiar with the layout of the house and knew where jewellery, cash and other valuables were kept.
Investigators revealed that Lalita, who is married, and her boyfriend allegedly wanted money to support their lifestyle and recreational activities. They allegedly targeted Kamla Devi to obtain quick cash and valuables.
According to police, the two entered the house under the cover of darkness, murdered the woman and fled with gold and silver ornaments, cash and other belongings worth around Rs 4 lakh.
During the operation, police recovered a significant portion of the stolen property, including gold bangles, gold earrings, a nose pin, silver anklets, silver coins, cash, ATM cards and Aadhaar cards.
Officials credited the breakthrough to technical surveillance, cyber tracking and continuous monitoring of suspects. The arrests have brought a dramatic end to a case that initially appeared to be a routine robbery but ultimately exposed a murder conspiracy involving a close family member.
Both accused have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
