Garret Dillahunt was “nervous” about stripping off for Lanterns in his 60s.

The 61-year-old actor admitted while he has appeared nude in “a few things early on” in his career, but he didn’t expect to be taking his clothes off as his character William Macon asks Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart to draw a naked portrait.

He told PEOPLE magazine: “Of course I was nervous. I thought those days were long past. I’ve been naked in a few plays and a few things early on.

“So, yeah, I had to get ready. [My character is] sort of unusually fit for a guy my age.

“And I was like, ‘Wow, I don’t think I’m unusually fit. I better try to get unusually fit,’ and I had a little bit of time, so I did my best.”

Despite feeling apprehensive beforehand, Garrett admitted there was a relaxed atmosphere on set, and he’s pleased with how the scene played out.

He added: “But, thankfully, everyone was funny and cool and we had a decent time that day. The scene works.

“If it didn’t work, I think I’d have different feelings about it. But, I don’t know, it was fun.”

Poorna Jagannathan, who plays Zoe Macon on the HBO superhero drama, joked that when it came to the intimate scene, the cast “just laughed at him”.

Garret has described the scene as “funny”, but his past experience in comedies didn’t necessarily give him an edge preparing for Lanterns as a whole.

He explained: “I don’t know that it taught me or prepared me in any way.

“All the actors on set had a really great sense of humour so there were those humorous moments. And I think there’s a ton of humour in drama. There should be more.”

Lanterns, which comes from DC Studios and Warner Bros Television, focuses on Green Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and his new recruit John tackling crimes in Nebraska.
