The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has introduced a new machine to clean up litter from the streets, but the equipment has left social media users divided over just how effective it is.
The compact, white machine bearing the MCG logo is now being used to clean several stretches of roads and one such video showing the machine at work found its way to X.

In the clip, a worker was seen manoeuvring the scooter-like vehicle along the roadside, where bits of litter, including plastic wrappers and pieces of paper, were scattered right beside the pavement.
With the machine’s suction pipe in his hand, the worker moved along the road, directing it towards the scattered waste. The pipe sucked up the litter lying on the ground after a few repeated attempts by him.
The equipment was introduced as part of the MCG’s efforts to improve sanitation and keep public spaces cleaner.
“Gurugram Municipality has introduced an Automatic Garbage Cleaning Machine to help keep the city’s streets clean,” read the caption of the post.

However, it was the word “automatic” in the description of the machine that caught the attention of social media users.
While the machine was able to mechanically collect some of the waste, several users pointed out that it still required a person to operate and guide it.
This led some viewers to question whether describing the equipment as an “automatic garbage cleaning machine” was accurate. For them, the footage appeared to show a machine-assisted cleaning process rather than one that operates independently.
“A lot of manual work in the automatic machine,” one user pointed out. “Automatic? Then why is this guy doing manual work and how those big cardboard and paper gets sucked into the vacuum cleaner,” echoed another.
Others focused on a different question, whether a small machine like this can make a meaningful difference on Gurugram’s roads, where litter can accumulate across larger stretches.
