Manchester City and Erling Haaland both have a new look about them this season. In the Norwegian striker’s case it’s his haircut, but the results are much the same.
Haaland scored his third goal of the season as City extended their 100 per cent start by beating Coventry 1-0 to stay at the top of the English Premier League on Saturday.
New signings of Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye both started the match but Haaland remains City’s prize asset.
His 26th-minute header at the Etihad Stadium provided the decisive moment against promoted Coventry and maintained Enzo Maresca’s perfect start since replacing Pep Guardiola.
City are three points clear of defending champion Arsenal, who play Chelsea on Sunday.
Promoted Hull City are second and still unbeaten on seven points after a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s team have yet to score this season, but at least picked up their first point.
Tottenham also picked up their first point with a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, who thought they had found q winner through Neco Williams, but the goal was ruled out by VAR because of a handball.
Newcastle remain unbeaten under new coach Matthias Jaissle thanks to a late equaliser from Jacob Ramsey in a 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth.
Newcastle looked to be heading for their first defeat of the season until Ramsey lashed low past Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.
Bournemouth had led through Marcus Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal. Harvey Barnes halved the deficity with a brilliant solo goal, cutting in from the left and curling the ball into the top corner.
Crystal Palace twice came back against Fulham to eventually win 3-2 at Craven Cottage, Ben Chilwell scoring the winner, while Brighton drew 1-1 with Leeds.
Brentford and Sunderland also drew 1-1.
The results leave Fulham last but one in the table, above Coventry on goal difference, after three straight league losses under new coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
