OnlyFans has saved Jessie Cave and her family’s lives.
The actress, who played Lavender Brown in Harry Potter’s the Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2, joined the online subscription site in 2025 out of “complete desperation” to provide for herself, her fiance, comic Alfie Brown, and their four children after a callback audition rejection.
And Jessie, 39, said charging her subscribers $6 a month to watch non-explicit videos of herself styling her blonde hair as Lavender, a maid or an elf on the platform, known for adult content, has been more profitable than her acting career.
She told The Times: “I couldn’t go and, say, work in a supermarket because I can’t afford the childcare, and also I don’t want people shouting Harry Potter spells at me as I work at Tesco.
“I could retrain, but I can’t afford to do a degree. I had a breakdown, and I thought, that’s it with acting, I give up. But also we have no money. It was a point of complete desperation.
“I thought I’d make five grand, be on it for a few months and it would buy me time to work out what we’re going to do. But it’s now been over a year and a half, and it’s genuinely saved our lives.”
Jessie, who had 3,500 subscribers when she first joined OnlyFans, but now has less after they realised her content is non-explicit, said she can make £15,000 in a day, and earn more for doing one-off “paid-for messages”.
She added: “Think of that money. And I’ve earned more, easily, than my entire acting career within one year.”
The comedienne revealed that she makes most of her money on “Wet Hair Wednesdays”.
Jessie explained: “My rule is the hair is the main character. That’s how I justify it. It’s literally about hair: the texture of hair. The fetish. It’s very, very niche.”
Her content performs better if her locks are long, saying: “It’s down to my vagina. I could trim it, but the truth is, the weirder the better.”
Jessie acknowledged that people may have misconceptions about her being on OnlyFans.
She said: “There is a stigma. I didn’t really understand the risk of people thinking I’m doing porn.”
The author added: “And yes, [OnlyFans] is largely porn. But there are cooking videos, tarot readings, personal training – it’s just all done with a sexy edge.
“It is about wanting some kind of gaze… I wear baggy T-shirts on stage, I’ve never posted a bikini shot, I wear huge glasses. For so long I’ve just been this quirky figure.
“After having four kids and feeling invisible for so long, that was really appealing to me.”
Jessie thinks more stars should be charging for the sexy content they already post online.
She explained: “I do predict more people needing to use other platforms to make money when they’re not being an artist.
“I see people on Instagram posting bikini shots or sexy stuff, and I think, you could be charging for this! You’re losing money! I see that being the future. Everyone will be paying for everything.”
Jessie’s subscribers funded her breast enlargement surgery earlier this year, viewing it as a “business decision” to extend her earnings on the platform.
The entertainer said: “I’ve always wanted a boob job, but part of me realised I’m not going to last a year on OnlyFans with what I’ve got – my hair can only do so much.”
Jessie believes she has “barely any time” left on OnlyFans, explaining: “Because I’m not going naked. I don’t even talk on it. But I don’t know how long I can last if I don’t start giving more.
“The bottom line is I can’t afford to stop, and I do enjoy a lot of it. There’s a lot that I don’t enjoy too.”
