Harvey Weinstein has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for the sexual assault of a production assistant.
The former movie producer was initially found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley and raping Jessica Mann, an aspiring actress, at his first trial in New York City back in 2020.
However, that decision, and his 23-year prison sentence, was subsequently overruled, after the New York Court of Appeals determined that he did not get a fair trial.
Weinstein – who worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood during his career – was convicted of sexually assaulting Ms Haley at a second trial in June 2025.
A fourth trial relating to the alleged rape of Ms Mann was dropped, after the third trial ended in a mistrial.
Judge Curtis Farber said in court that Weinstein’s career achievements will now “pale in comparison to what you did”.
The judge described the former film producer – who has already spent six years in prison – as “a sexual predator” and the “literal face of the MeToo movement”.
Ms Haley also addressed the court shortly before the verdict was read out, describing her suffering as a “life sentence”.
She said: “Having been sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away.
“Making the decision to speak up will have me looking over my shoulder for years to come. It’s a life sentence for me.”
Weinstein, 74 – who co-founded the film production companies Miramax and the Weinstein Company – also addressed the court, apologising to those he may have hurt.
However, the disgraced former producer maintained his innocence.
Weinstein – who has a separate conviction for sex crimes in Los Angeles – said: “I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence.”
Ms Haley previously testified that Weinstein had assaulted her in a bedroom in his New York City apartment in 2006.
She told the BBC: “I just thought, I have to stand up for myself. I have to stand up for the truth.”
