Actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 on Thursday, October 8, after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Goa. He had complained of feeling unwell in the early hours of the morning before his condition worsened.
According to Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Department of Oncology at Manipal Hospital, Patekar had informed a friend around 2.30 am that he was feeling uncomfortable and had pain on the left side of his chest. The friend later reached his residence and found the actor in distress.

The friend then contacted Patekar’s caretaker, who called for an ambulance. By the time the caretaker reached him, Patekar was unresponsive. CPR was started at his home and continued while he was being taken to the hospital.
Patekar was brought to Manipal Hospital at around 4.20 am. Doctors continued efforts to revive him, including cardiac massage and CPR, for nearly 45 minutes. However, he did not respond to the treatment and was declared dead at around 5.20 am.
Speaking about the actor’s final moments, Dr Salkar said Patekar was “brought dead” to the hospital, but the medical team tried its best to revive him.
Why will Nana Patekar‘s body undergo a post-mortem?
As Patekar was not a registered patient at Manipal Hospital, the hospital treated the death as a medico-legal case and informed the police, Dr Salkar explained.
The actor’s body was subsequently taken to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination. The examination will be carried out as part of the procedure before the body is handed over to the family.
Dr Salkar said the hospital could not confirm the exact cause of death and that the police would investigate the circumstances. The post-mortem is expected to provide further clarity.
Patekar’s death came just days after his last public appearance in Goa. On October 4, he attended and addressed the installation ceremony of Samraat Club International in Dona Paula. Dr Salkar recalled that Patekar had spoken for more than an hour at the event and was emotional while speaking about former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
