Hyderabad: In the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, over 1,000 Hyderabad voters have been marked for deletion from final list.
A report in Telangana Today quoted data from the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), which revealed that across Telangana, 32,214 electors have been marked for deletion due to various reasons.
Rangareddy sees highest number of ‘ineligible’ voters
During the revision, Rangareddy recorded the highest number of voters marked for deletion. The district found 9,092 ‘ineligible’ voters during the exercise.
Out of them, 7,778 were under the unmapped category, and 1,314 had logical discrepancies in their data.
After Rangareddy, the highest number of electors marked for deletion was recorded in Peddapalli. The district found 4,447 electors ‘ineligible’.
Meanwhile, Warangal recorded 1,629 ‘ineligible’ electors, who have been marked for deletion from the final SIR electoral rolls.
Hyderabad voters to get speaking orders if excluded from SIR final list
Recently, the Election Commission of India (ECI) told the Telangana High Court that it would issue speaking orders explaining why eligible voters had been excluded from the final SIR list.
However, such orders will be issued only if the names are removed after voters attend the hearings in response to notices and submit documents.
The ECI’s senior counsel said voters could challenge these speaking orders through an appeal.
The final SIR electoral list of Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana is scheduled to be released on November 9.
