Yash has responded to Rashmika Mandanna’s 2017 ‘Mr Showoff’ remark, saying he is who he is. The actor revisited the controversy during his appearance in a recent interview, where he spoke about his upcoming film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups.
The 40-year-old said another person’s opinion could not define him, and also made it clear that fans should not attack another actor in his name. The controversy had begun after Rashmika named Yash during a rapid-fire segment on a television show. Her comment later drew criticism from his fans and prompted her to issue a clarification.

Speaking to journalist Rajat Sharma on Aap Ki Adaalat, Yash said he did not know in what sense Rashmika had made the remark and suggested that such television formats often pushed guests towards quick answers without serious intent.
He said, “I don’t know in what sense she spoke. She was new. There are ‘bakwaas’ TV shows, where the interviewer gives 3-4 options, and probably ‘yeh ladki sochi ki yeh option suit hoga (There are rubbish TV shows where the interviewer gives 3-4 options. The girl probably thought that option suited me.”
“Bahut saare directors offended ho gaye (Many directors got offended). I personally feel that’s okay; that’s somebody’s opinion. That’s what I wrote. Anybody can give an opinion about you. But somebody’s opinion will not be my personality. Jo main hoon, woh kisi ke nazariye se nahin badalta hai. Jo main ho, wo mein hu. Jo pyaar karte hai, jo aapko jaante hai wo jaante hai. ( Who I am does not change based on anyone’s perspective. I am who I am. Those who love you and know you—they understand.)”
Yash also addressed the reaction from fans and said disrespecting another actor was not a sign of support for him.
He said, “If you do not respect another actor, then he is not my fan.”
How the controversy began
The issue goes back to a television interaction involving Rashmika in 2017. During a rapid-fire segment, she was asked to name the “Mr Showoff” of the Kannada film industry. Rashmika named Yash, and the answer later became a major talking point on social media.
Her remark led to criticism from Yash’s fans, after which she released a detailed clarification. She said the programme had been recorded months earlier and was aired again later.
In her statement, Rashmika said, “Dear all, at the outset let me share that I too am extremely unhappy and disturbed by this sudden turn of events with regard to a talk show, which was shot seven months back, even before the release of Kirik Party.
The interview was aired on Star Suvarna during the release of Kirik Party and was recast recently. I have no disrespect towards Yash Sir or anyone. In fact, on many occasions, I have expressed my admiration towards Yash Sir, his talent and how he has inspired everyone, including myself.”
She also said the rapid-fire answer had been separated from the rest of the conversation.
Rashmika said, “When you edit and take just two lines from the most non-serious part of the show and give it spin, the context is lost. That is really sad. It was not a statement I made, but a game of rapid fire, and never in my dreams did I think this would be taken so seriously, ignoring my admiration and all the positive statements I had made about him.”
Yash’s earlier response
Yash had also responded when the controversy first emerged and had asked his followers to stop pursuing the matter.
In his earlier message, he said, “Hi everyone… I generally ignore these kinds of things, but since it is very evident that you guys are hurt, I thought I should react. Firstly, I would like to thank all my fans for all the love and support. I do not know Rashmika personally nor have I ever spoken to her, but she has every right to have an opinion. Let us not disrespect it. You never become someone else’s opinion. Please ignore this issue from this very moment. Moving on… will soon update a KGF pic… until then Eid Mubarak everyone.”
Yash has now reiterated that position while looking ahead to the release of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas.
