IB MAY 2026 RESULT IN NUMBERS
The International Baccalaureate, while announcing the result on July 6 said, 1,94,541 students appeared for the Diploma Programme examinations across 157 countries during the May 2026 session. The global average score stood at 30.45 points, while the overall pass rate was 81.26 per cent. Overall, only eight students worldwide earned the maximum 45 points.
The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year pre-university qualification for students aged 16 to 19. Candidates can score a maximum of 45 points, comprising up to 42 points from six academic subjects and three additional points from the combined assessment of the Theory of Knowledge course and the Extended Essay.
Greenwood High reported a strong overall performance in this year’s examinations. Besides the two world toppers, three students — Anvita Reddy Guddeti, Nidhi Mittal and Sanay Sridhar — scored 44 points, while seven students secured 43 points. They are Aahana Jain, Aryan Dhir, Inesh Dora Kanati, Nakshatra Ganesh, Sahana Arun Kuttuva, Sritanvi Karthik and Vipran Vasan.
According to the school, 36 per cent of its IBDP Class of 2026 scored 40 points or above. The school also said its graduating batch has received scholarship offers worth more than USD 8 million and secured admissions to universities across the US, UK, Europe and Asia.
Other Indian schools also reported strong performances. Delhi Public School (DPS) International, Gurugram, said four of its students scored 43 out of 45 points in the IB Diploma Programme, reflecting another notable showing by an Indian school in this year’s global results.
WHAT WILL THE PERFECT SCORE HOLDERS BE DOING NEXT
Amisha Sharma will pursue Public Policy and Data Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, while Varun Vasudevan Iyer will study Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley.
Speaking about her achievement, Amisha said she was “ecstatic” to see two years of hard work culminate in a perfect score.
“I feel ecstatic right now seeing the culmination of two years of studying pay off like this. I am so grateful to my parents, sister and friends for their support. This accomplishment demanded constant discipline, hard work and attention to detail, and I could not have sustained that effort without my circle,” she said.
Varun said his success stemmed from mastering concepts rather than spending long hours studying.
“I never put in the long hours of studying most people associate with getting a 45. My preparation came down to perfect practice with concepts, working on assessments and, after every attempt, reviewing the data to work on my shortcomings,” he said.
Congratulating the students, Greenwood High Vice Chairperson and Managing Trustee Niru Agarwal said the results reflected the school’s academic rigour, personalised guidance and holistic learning environment.
The May 2026 examination session saw 2,09,315 students register for the IB Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme worldwide. Of these, 14,774 students appeared for the Career-related Programme, while 8,347 Diploma Programme candidates were awarded the bilingual diploma.
