The Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand has reached the doorsteps of top government officials and public representatives, with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), a BJP MLA and the Kumaon Commissioner among those receiving notices as part of the statewide voter verification exercise.
According to the officials, most of these notices have been issued due to routine discrepancies in electoral records, such as spelling errors, incomplete names or outdated addresses.

In Nainital, officials said a notice served at BJP MLA Sarita Arya’s residence sought voter verification details for both the legislator and her younger son. A similar notice was delivered to the residence of Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat during the Election Commission’s door-to-door verification drive.
Even the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, BVRC Purushottam, received a notice due to a discrepancy in his name and has since submitted the required documents to the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Seeking to allay concerns over the notices, Purushottam on Thursday said voters should not panic, stressing that discrepancies related to names, addresses or other particulars can be corrected by submitting the prescribed documents to the BLO.
The state’s Chief Electoral Officer described the issuance of such notices as a routine part of the electoral roll revision process aimed at resolving discrepancies in voter records.
Speaking to reporters, Purushottam said district election officers have been directed to ensure that routine discrepancy cases are verified and resolved at the BLO level itself to minimise inconvenience to voters.
Cases where voters could not be mapped will receive special attention and be handled by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), he added.
Purushottam said that of the 24.30 lakh notices issued under the ongoing SIR exercise, around 20.27 lakh have already been delivered to voters.
Meanwhile, Nainital Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khalik said the verification drive is being carried out strictly in accordance with the Election Commission’s directions to ensure electoral rolls remain accurate, updated and free of errors.
“The campaign is being conducted as per the directions of the Election Commission. Its objective is to maintain accurate and updated electoral rolls. Booth Level Officers are visiting households to verify voter details and collect the required information,” Khalik said.
He said that the exercise is being implemented uniformly across the district and applies to every eligible voter, irrespective of whether the individual is an ordinary citizen or holds a constitutional, political or administrative office.
Additionally, the district administration has urged residents to cooperate with Booth Level Officers and provide the required information to facilitate the timely completion of the electoral roll revision exercise.
